Globe reroutes internet traffic following international subsea cable break
Globe has rerouted its data traffic through alternative international links following a break in one of its subsea fiber optic cable systems that caused intermittent connectivity and slower internet speeds for some mobile and broadband customers.
In a statement, the telecommunications company said it began rerouting traffic last night, using backup connections and other international links to maintain services for residential and corporate customers.
The cable break reduced Globe’s available international bandwidth, resulting in slower browsing speeds and delays when accessing some online services.
βOur teams are working continuously to ease congestion and restore normal internet service as quickly as possible. In parallel, we are working with our partners to validate the cause of the disruption,β said Joel Agustin, Globe’s Senior Vice President and Head of Network Planning and Engineering.
Repairs to the affected subsea fiber optic cable are expected to be completed in the next few weeks.
Meanwhile, Globe assured customers that its primary IT systems remain operational.
The company also confirmed that an earlier issue affecting access to some applications, particularly during login on Android devices, has been resolved.
