Did you experience a sudden internet disconnection or slower browsing earlier today? A reported undersea cable disruption between the Philippines and Singapore may be one of the reasons.
The UP Diliman Network Helpdesk (DilNet) issued an advisory on Friday, October 2, saying it had been informed that one of the undersea cable segments between the Philippines and Singapore was offline.
According to DilNet, most of its upstream internet service providers (ISPs) connect through major international cable routes, potentially resulting in increased latency and intermittent internet performance, particularly when accessing websites and online services hosted overseas.
The university clarified that the issue is not limited to its campus network, warning that other local ISPs and telecommunications companies may also experience slowdowns, depending on their primary connections.
Meanwhile, an online outage-monitoring platform, Downdetector, earlier displayed spikes in user reports involving Globe, Converge ICT, and PLDT, with all three marked as experiencing possible service disruptions.

However, it has not been established whether these reported disruptions are directly related to the undersea cable issue.
