Following the commercial launch of Starlink Mobile for Globe and TM customers in the Philippines, Globe is extending satellite-to-mobile connectivity to customers traveling abroad. Filipino customers traveling to Japan can now use Starlink Mobile on their compatible phones to send messages and stay connected with apps in cellular dead zones and remote locations. The international access service is made possible with Starlink Mobile’s telecom partner, KDDI Japan.

With international access connectivity, customers can use select apps for messaging, navigation, and other communication needs in areas where conventional mobile coverage may be limited. Globe’s GoRoam Japan brings this together with regular terrestrial roaming, giving travelers more flexibility to stay connected as they move between covered areas and cellular dead zones. GoRoam Japan promos are now available on GlobeOne and GCash, with options to suit different travel needs.

β€œGlobe has always been at the forefront of connectivity innovation, and extending our Starlink journey into international access is the next step in that evolution,” said Eric Tanbauco, Head of Globe’s Consumer Mobile Business. β€œThrough our partnership with KDDI, we are exploring how satellite-enabled connectivity can help overcome network boundaries and create a more seamless travel experience for customers.”

This news follows KDDI’s announcement which enables its customers to leverage the Globe Starlink service when traveling to the Philippines.

β€œOur goal is to eliminate global cellular dead zones and deliver reliable connectivity, aiming for a world where if you can see the sky, you can connect anywhere. Through our partnership with Globe and Starlink Mobile, we are taking another step toward expanding satellite-enabled roaming beyond traditional coverage areas,” said Makoto Kadowaki, Executive Officer at KDDI Japan. β€œTogether, we aim to deliver enhanced customer experiences and dependable connectivity for travelers in both the Philippines and Japan, while progressively expanding these capabilities on a global scale.”

When conventional mobile coverage is unavailable, Starlink Mobile is designed to connect compatible phones directly to satellites without requiring a special device or separate satellite terminal. To use the service in Japan, Globe customers need:

  • a compatible LTE/5G Android or Harmony devices
  • an active, applicable GoRoam Japan promo
  • enabled mobile data and data roaming
  • a clear, unobstructed view of the sky for best coverage

Starlink Mobile provides direct-to-device coverage for compatible phones, distinct from Starlink internet. Both services are delivered by the world’s largest satellite networks.

Globe customers traveling to Japan and KDDI customers traveling to the Philippines can enjoy a more seamless, convenient, and worry-free roaming experience. They can stay connected with greater confidence as they explore and discover more, knowing their roaming service is designed to support their journey.

GoRoam Japan starts at P400 for 7 days with 2GB all-access data, 1GB satellite data, and 50 satellite texts to all networks. Discover plans and pricing here https://glbe.com.ph/StarlinkRoaming.
