Smart to validate NTC findings, commits to network improvements

Smart Communications, Inc. said it will validate the findings raised by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) in its show cause order while working with the regulator to address areas requiring network improvements.
The telco said it will closely coordinate with the NTC on the specific concerns identified in the order and compare the regulatorβs findings with its own network data.
βWhile Smart will validate the findings based on its own network data, it will continue to address areas where improvements can be made and support the NTCβs efforts to enhance the quality of telco services,β the company said.
Smart said it will also compare the NTC findings with assessments from independent international third parties and recent government network performance reports.
Citing the Department of Information and Communications Technologyβs (DICT) Oplan Bantay Signal reports, Smart said it maintained a βGoodβ overall network performance rating in July and August 2026.
In August, Smart recorded an overall score of 80.2 and an average download speed of 52.13 Mbps. The company said all measured cities posted speeds above 15 Mbps, while no city was classified under the reportβs crisis category for the fourth consecutive month.
Smart also cited Ooklaβs recognition of the company for the Best Mobile Video Experience in the Philippines for the first half of 2026, with a Video Score of 72.82.
The telco said it will use the NTC findings alongside its own network data and third-party benchmarks to guide further improvements in network quality, capacity and resilience.
Smartβs statement follows the issuance of a show cause order by the NTC over concerns involving mobile broadband service quality. The company said it remains committed to improving its network and customer experience.
