NTC fines telcos P100K daily over poor mobile internet in NCR

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has imposed a P100,000 daily penalty on DITO Telecommunity, Globe Telecom and Smart Communications over mobile broadband service issues in several areas of Metro Manila.

The NTC prepared a show cause orders against the three mobile network operators after its September validation found that previously recorded poor mobile broadband signals in the National Capital Region remained largely unchanged despite earlier opportunities for the companies to address the identified issues.

The September tests followed validation activities conducted during the first and second quarters of 2026.

Based on the latest validation, Globe was flagged in Makati and Quezon City, DITO in San Juan, Pasay and Las Piñas, and Smart in Parañaque, Manila and Pasig.

The NTC said each operator will face a P100,000 penalty per day until the service deficiencies identified by the commission have been addressed.

The regulator said it will continue monitoring mobile broadband performance in other parts of Metro Manila as part of its assessment of network service quality.
