Other World Computing (OWC), an American computer hardware and software company, has launched its latest portable solid-state drive, the Express 1M2 80G, which delivers real-world transfer speeds of more than 6,000 MB/s and full support for Thunderbolt 5 and USB4 connectivity.
Built for creators, mobile professionals, and gamers, the device combines top-tier performance with a compact, fanless design that fits in the palm of a hand.
“This is more than just an update – it’s a next-gen tool for anyone who refuses to settle for slow,” said Larry O’Connor, Founder and CEO, Other World Computing (OWC). “From on-the-go creatives, to tech-savvy DIYers, to portable gaming pros – we built the Express 1M2 80G to deliver unmatched performance, flexibility, and reliability.”
Compatibility extends across Macs, PCs, iPad Pro, Chromebooks, and Microsoft Surface devices equipped with Thunderbolt 5, Thunderbolt 4, or USB4 ports, while also maintaining backward support for Thunderbolt 3.
The enclosure itself is upgradeable, supporting both 2280 and 2242 NVMe M.2 SSDs, giving users the option to expand storage or improve performance later on. Power is supplied through an included USB4 cable, eliminating the need for an external power adapter.
OWC has priced the Express 1M2 80G at USD 219 for the 0TB enclosure, with ready-to-run versions starting at USD 349 for 1TB, USD 499 for 2TB, USD 699 for 4TB, and USD 1,299 for the top-end 8TB model.
By pairing next-generation USB4 performance with wide device compatibility and an innovative cooling design, OWC is positioning the drive as a future-ready storage solution for professionals and enthusiasts alike.
