Aguda steps down as DICT chief — report; denies stepping down
- DICT, Henry Aguda
Henry Aguda has reportedly stepped down as secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology, according to reports published on Tuesday, May 12, which the secretary has denied.
In a report by Politiko, Aguda dismissed claims that he had resigned from his post following speculation surrounding changes within the Marcos Cabinet.
“I did not tender my resignation. I continue to serve at the pleasure of the President,” Aguda said.
Earlier, a report by Bilyonaryo News Channel said Aguda allegedly tendered his resignation on Monday.
Aguda was appointed DICT secretary by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in March 2025 and was sworn into office shortly after, succeeding former DICT secretary Ivan John Uy.
The report noted that Aguda, a former fintech executive, had been embroiled in several controversies since assuming the post, including allegations involving bid-rigging in agency projects.
It also said discussions were circulating that former presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda was being considered to take over the DICT.
As of posting time, there has been no official confirmation yet from Malacañang or the DICT regarding the reported resignation.
The reported development comes as the DICT continues to oversee several major digital transformation initiatives, including the expansion of government digital services, cloud infrastructure modernization, cybersecurity programs, and the eGovPH ecosystem.
