MariBank Philippines has secured approval from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to operate as a digital bank, completing its transition from a rural bank.

In a circular letter dated July 22, the BSP said the Monetary Board approved MariBank’s request to upgrade its banking license under Resolution No. 133 issued on Feb. 19, 2026.

The approval allows the institution formerly known as MariBank Philippines, Inc. (A Rural Bank) to operate under the corporate name MariBank Philippines, Inc.

The Securities and Exchange Commission approved the bank’s amended Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws on June 16 to reflect its digital banking license.

The corresponding Certificate of Authority allowing MariBank to operate as a digital bank was issued by the BSP governor on July 8.

MariBank began operating under its digital bank license on July 18, according to the BSP.

In a statement, MariBank said the reclassification would allow it to further develop its services and reach more Filipinos.

“Our goal has always been to build a bank that works for Filipinos by being simple, reliable, and rewarding. The reclassification only positions MariBank to continue innovating and reach more Filipinos over time,” the company said.

MariBank assured customers that their accounts would remain secure and that no action was required following the change in its banking classification.

The bank added that deposits remain insured by the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation for up to ₱1 million per depositor.
