BDO Unibank has issued a statement following viral posts on social media about alleged unauthorized transactions involving one of its clients who raised concerns over account security. The bank confirmed it has already reached out to the client and is working to resolve the matter as quickly as possible.

“We are aware of the viral posts circulating on social media regarding alleged unauthorized transactions involving a BDO client, who has publicly expressed concern about the security of her account,” BDO said in a statement posted on its social media page.

BDO explained that many fraud cases stem from social engineering schemes, where scammers trick clients into revealing sensitive details through fake links, calls, or messages.

These details are then used to carry out transactions without the client’s knowledge.

The bank also highlighted the risk of “familial fraud,” where perpetrators are people personally known to the client, such as relatives or friends who take advantage of their personal information to gain access to financial accounts.

“While our systems remain secure, fraudsters continue to exploit trust and familiarity to trick customers,” BDO said.

To protect clients, the bank reminded everyone to avoid clicking suspicious links, refrain from sharing personal information, and never disclose one-time passwords (OTPs). BDO reiterated that it will never request such sensitive information through text, calls, email, or social media.

Clients who receive doubtful communications are urged to visit the nearest BDO branch for verification.

BDO is regulated by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), while deposits are insured by the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) up to P1 million per depositor.
