Seven Formula 1 teams have introduced technical upgrades ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit, with Mercedes bringing an extensive aerodynamic package while Red Bull focuses on improving floor performance.
According to technical updates released by the FΓ©dΓ©ration Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the changes cover aerodynamic efficiency, brake cooling, suspension components, and circuit-specific adjustments designed to improve performance under Sepang’s demanding conditions.
Mercedes leads major upgrades
Mercedes has introduced seven updates to its W17, including a redesigned floor, floor leading edge, floor corner, rear suspension, rear corner, and rear bodywork.
The changes include reprofiled horizontal floor elements, new floor edges and corners, and a redesigned diffuser roof, sidewall, and winglet.
The team has also revised its rear suspension fairings and rear brake drum winglets to complement the aerodynamic package.
Red Bull, McLaren introduce changes
Red Bull Racing has revised the floor board geometry of its RB22 to generate additional aerodynamic load while maintaining airflow stability behind the front tires.
McLaren, meanwhile, has introduced a circuit-specific engine cover designed to improve cooling in Sepang’s high temperatures.
Racing Bulls has brought a modified front wing featuring a longer-chord flap to suit the circuit’s demands. The team has also redesigned its rear wing support components to improve aerodynamic efficiency and load generation.
Alpine and Haas focus on cooling, performance
Alpine has trimmed the front brake drum exit of its A526 to increase brake cooling capacity and improve thermal management for the Malaysian and Singaporean races.
Haas has introduced an additional rear impact structure device, allowing the team to adjust the car’s characteristics to suit the circuit.
The upgrades come as teams seek to maximize performance under Sepang’s demanding conditions, where high temperatures place additional stress on cooling systems and aerodynamic efficiency.
Meanwhile, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has secured pole position and will lead the grid when the 56-lap Bahrain Grand Prix gets underway at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 3 p.m. Philippine time.
