George Russell secured pole position for the Formula 1 Lenovo Austrian Grand Prix 2026 after topping the final qualifying session with a 1:06.113 lap, putting Mercedes at the front of the grid for Sunday’s race.
Russell’s pole came after a tight Q3 battle at the Red Bull Ring, where Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc placed second with a 1:06.349, while teammate Lewis Hamilton completed the top three with a 1:06.408.
Mercedes also locked the second row through Kimi Antonelli, who qualified fourth with a 1:06.414, giving the team a strong starting position heading into race day.
Max Verstappen, meanwhile, will start fifth for Red Bull Racing after his unfortunate qualifying crash. Despite the setback, Verstappen still recorded a 1:06.475 in Q3, keeping him within striking distance of the front runners.
McLaren will line up sixth and seventh, with Lando Norris posting a 1:06.502, just ahead of Oscar Piastri at 1:06.511. Isack Hadjar placed eighth for Red Bull Racing, followed by Racing Bulls drivers Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad in ninth and 10th.
The result sets up a competitive Austrian Grand Prix, with Mercedes and Ferrari leading the charge while Verstappen faces the challenge of recovering from fifth on the grid. Given the short lap and close margins at the Red Bull Ring, the opening laps could be crucial as the top teams fight for track position.
