Globe activates contingency measures to maintain network stability amid energy emergency, rotating brownouts
- Globe
Globe Telecom said it has activated its business continuity and energy resiliency measures to keep network services stable and operational following the declaration of a State of National Energy Emergency and the expected rotating power interruptions affecting several parts of Luzon.
The company assured customers that contingency measures are already in place as public advisories warned of rotating brownouts that may impact Metro Manila, Cavite, Bulacan, Batangas, Laguna, Rizal, and Quezon.
According to Globe, backup power systems including generators and battery support have been prepared to keep facilities and cell sites running even during commercial power interruptions.
The telco said it is prioritizing fuel and energy allocation for critical network infrastructure to help minimize service disruptions during prolonged outages and unstable power conditions.
Globe added that it is coordinating closely with government agencies, partners, and industry stakeholders to support efforts recognizing telecommunications as critical infrastructure during the ongoing energy situation.
“These engagements help ensure that the necessary resources and operational support are in place to sustain network services and enable fast restoration during prolonged power interruptions,” the company said.
As part of its operational response, Globe expanded work-from-home arrangements for most employees except for critical personnel involved in network and IT operations, customer service, network security, stores, and sales channels.
Additional energy-saving initiatives have also been introduced, including travel limitations, carpooling measures, and incentives for electric vehicle use.
Beyond immediate contingency actions, Globe said it continues to strengthen its long-term energy resiliency strategy through energy efficiency programs, renewable energy adoption, and artificial intelligence-powered technologies designed to optimize power consumption across network sites.
The company noted that approximately 30 percent of its network currently runs on renewable energy.
Globe said maintaining reliable connectivity remains a priority as the country faces volatile energy and geopolitical conditions that may affect telecommunications operations.
