As Tropical Cyclone Tino (international name: Kalmaegi) continues to bring heavy rains and strong winds across parts of the country, PLDT Inc. and its wireless arm Smart Communications, Inc. reaffirmed their readiness to maintain vital communication lines and ensure uninterrupted connectivity for affected communities.
The group said its network and field teams are on standby and closely coordinating with local government units (LGUs), disaster response agencies, and community partners to address possible service disruptions and provide immediate assistance when needed.
“Our teams are always prepared to respond, especially during severe weather events,” said Jose Roby Alampay, First Vice President and Head of Public Engagement and Corporate Communications at PLDT and Smart. “We remain committed to keeping Filipinos safe and connected.”
PLDT and Smart also reminded the public to charge their devices, store emergency contacts, and follow official government and weather advisories for verified updates.
This effort forms part of the Group’s #SafeandSmart advocacy, which promotes disaster preparedness and community resilience through technology and reliable communication.
Tino is the country’s 20th tropical cyclone of 2025, bringing moderate to torrential rains and strong to destructive winds across parts of the Visayas, Mindanao, and Southern Luzon.
In its 5 a.m. November 4 bulletin, PAGASA reported that the eye of Typhoon Tino was located over the coastal waters of San Francisco, Cebu, based on data from the Masbate and Mactan Doppler Weather Radars. The typhoon is moving westward at 25 km/h, packing maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 205 km/h.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has advised the public to stay alert for possible flooding, landslides, and storm surges.
