Aurora’s victory is an early statement from its refreshed lineup. The team brought in jungler Kyle “Koyl” Reyes and EXP laner Nathanael “Nathzz” Estrologo for Season 18. They joined returning players Kenneth Carl “Yue” Tadeo, Dylan Aaron “Light” Catipon and Dominic “Domeng” Delmundo. The roster had to find its footing during the regular season, but it has now knocked the league’s top seed off its upper-bracket path.
Liquid entered the playoffs with a 12-2 regular-season record and a chance to extend its run of three straight MPL PH titles. Aurora finished the regular season 9-5, then fought through a five-game series against Smart Omega to earn its shot at the top seed.
The teams had split their regular-season meetings, but Aurora took the deciding series when the stakes were highest. Liquid now faces a longer road through the lower bracket, where it will face ONIC PH. Aurora moves closer to another grand-final appearance.
Aurora will face Team Falcons PH in the upper-bracket final, with the winner securing a place in the M8 World Championship.
