DICT to coordinate with DBM to sustain eGovPH system capacity amid rising demand

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said it is coordinating with the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to ensure sustained system capacity for the eGovPH App, following a recent temporary service interruption linked to increased user activity.
”DICT acknowledges the concerns raised during the Senate hearing regarding the funding requirements of these critical services. We are working closely with the Department of Budget and Management and other concerned agencies to support long-term resource planning and sustain the continued modernization of critical digital infrastructure,” DICT said in a statement.
In a holding statement dated April 30, the DICT said the disruption was caused by an unexpected surge in demand that placed significant pressure on system resources. Technical teams immediately responded, allowing affected services to be restored shortly after.

The development comes amid disclosures that there is no budget to pay for the cloud services supporting eGov systems, leading to the shutdown of 12 platforms.
This prompted Bam Aquino, chair of the Senate Committee on Basic Education and the Senate Committee on Science and Technology, to raise concerns on April 29 over the stability of the country’s digital infrastructure.

The agency emphasized that the incident reflects the growing number of Filipinos relying on digital government platforms, with usage spikes becoming more frequent as adoption expands nationwide.
To address this, the DICT said it is working closely with DBM and other concerned agencies on long-term resource planning to support infrastructure scaling, improve system performance, and ensure reliability during high-traffic periods.
The eGovPH App functions as a centralized platform for accessing various government services, including digital identification, permits, and other transactions. As more services are integrated into the platform, backend capacity requirements continue to increase.
