DICT to upgrade eGovPH servers to prevent outages, improve service

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is working to strengthen the back-end systems of the eGovPH Super App after recent outages left users unable to access services.

The move focuses on improving servers, increasing system capacity, and strengthening coordination among government agencies connected to the platform.

DICT Undersecretary David Almirol Jr. said the app’s rapid growth has put pressure on its infrastructure. “The goal is simple. Make government services easier for Filipinos,” Amirol said.

DICT is upgrading its servers and adding more cloud capacity to handle higher demand. It is also working more closely with different government agencies to ensure their systems are stable and properly integrated into the platform.

“Instead of relying only on a central system, agencies are now expected to better manage their own systems while staying connected through the eGov platform. This is meant to reduce bottlenecks and prevent system-wide outages,” Almirol revealed.

“The government is also seeking additional funding to support these upgrades as more Filipinos continue to use the app,” he added

Beyond fixing technical issues, Almirol said the goal is to make government services faster, more reliable, and easier to access, reducing the need for in-person transactions.

Originally designed for just a handful of services, the app quickly expanded as more agencies came on board. Today, it works as a one-stop platform where users can access IDs, permits, documents, and other government transactions in one place.

By 2026, the app had reached around 40 million downloads and was already linked to about 1,000 government systems.

However, as the platform grew, outage reports began surfacing online around April 13, with many users saying they could not log in or complete transactions. The issue was linked to heavy traffic on the system, especially after the rollout of new features like eGov AI.

As the platform continues to grow, Almirol said the focus is now on building a stronger, more reliable system capable of handling millions of users without disruption.
