Filipinos living in underserved and remote communities could benefit from faster internet connectivity as local government units (LGUs) across the country streamline the approval process for telecommunications infrastructure projects.
Globe Telecom welcomed the progress in simplifying permit requirements, saying faster approvals could help telecommunications providers build new cell sites and upgrade existing networks without prolonged administrative delays.
According to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), a total of 12,241 permits and clearances for telecommunications infrastructure projects had been approved across 707 cities and municipalities nationwide as of September 2026.

The development follows the implementation of Executive Order No. 32, issued in 2023, which streamlined requirements for telecommunications and internet infrastructure projects and directed LGUs to process applications within prescribed timelines to prevent backlogs.
For telecommunications companies, obtaining permits is a crucial step before construction can begin. Delays in approval can affect the deployment of cell sites and network upgrades, particularly in areas where internet connectivity remains limited.
“Faster permitting is important in bringing better connectivity to more Filipinos. We appreciate the efforts of LGUs to simplify these processes and help telecommunications providers move forward with their projects. Continued cooperation between government and the industry will help us expand our network and reach more communities, especially those that remain underserved,” said Joel Agustin, Senior Vice President and Head of Network Planning and Engineering at Globe.
Globe said continued cooperation between government agencies, LGUs, and telecommunications providers would help accelerate network expansion and improve access to reliable mobile and home internet services.
The company has also continued investing in network infrastructure to support growing connectivity demands.
In the first half of 2026, Globe recorded ₱26.3 billion in capital expenditures, with 91 percent allocated to data-related initiatives.
During the same period, the telecommunications provider deployed 878 new 5G sites and 80,052 fiber-to-the-home lines.
Globe also reported that its outdoor 5G population coverage exceeded 98 percent in Metro Manila and key cities across the Visayas and Mindanao.
The company said it would continue coordinating with national government agencies and LGUs to facilitate infrastructure deployment and extend connectivity to more communities nationwide.
