LG Philippines collects 1.2 tons of e-waste in Earth Day push, expands internal sustainability efforts

LG Electronics Philippines marked Earth Day 2026 with an employee-led e-waste collection drive, gathering 1,200 kilograms of discarded electronic waste over a three-week period, as the company strengthens its sustainability initiatives in the Philippines.
The collection ran from March 31 to April 21 and covered a range of end-of-life devices, including televisions, computers, mobile phones, batteries, and small appliances. The accumulated e-waste was turned over to TRAME OIL, an accredited treatment and disposal partner, for proper processing.
Employees also took part in the controlled destruction of e-waste at LG’s warehouse facility in Pasig City, highlighting internal engagement in the company’s environmental programs beyond collection efforts.
The initiative reflects LG’s broader sustainability strategy, which includes large-scale recycling and waste management programs across its global operations.
The company said it has maintained a recycling rate above 95 percent worldwide, with cumulative e-waste collection reaching over 5 million tons. LG also operates electronic waste collection and treatment services in 89 locations across 54 countries, including the Philippines, where such services have been in place since 2022.
E-waste, which includes discarded electronic devices and components, remains a growing environmental concern due to its potential impact on soil, water, and air when improperly disposed. Industry-wide, improper handling of electronic waste has been linked to toxic material leakage, making structured collection and treatment systems critical for mitigation.
LG said its Earth Day initiative is part of ongoing efforts to promote responsible disposal practices while encouraging participation at the employee level.
“Earth Day is an important reminder that sustainability is built through everyday action. Through this e-waste collection initiative, we are encouraging employee participation in responsible disposal practices while supporting LG’s broader sustainability efforts,” said Nakhyun Seong, Managing Director, LG Electronics Philippines.
The program underscores how corporate-led initiatives are increasingly being used to complement national and global sustainability targets, particularly in addressing the rising volume of electronic waste as digital adoption accelerates.
