The Philippine government will not ban Roblox, opting instead to tighten child safety measures across digital platforms as concerns over online abuse continue to grow.
In a joint meeting held on April 7, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), Roblox representatives, law enforcement, and private sector stakeholders reaffirmed that keeping platforms accessible—while strengthening protections—remains the more balanced approach.
“Hindi ipagbabawal ang Roblox sa Pilipinas. Ang kaligtasan ng mga kabataan ang mananatiling pangunahing prayoridad,” the DICT said, underscoring that regulation—not prohibition—is the direction being taken.
The move aligns with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to reinforce digital safety, particularly for minors, amid rising cases of online sexual abuse and exploitation of children (OSAEC).
Authorities said the decision recognizes both the risks and realities of digital platforms widely used by young Filipinos. Instead of imposing a ban, the government is pushing for stricter safeguards, stronger monitoring systems, and closer coordination with platform providers.
“Palalakasin natin ang seguridad sa digital platforms upang maprotektahan ang bawat kabataang Pilipino,” DICT added.
Roblox, for its part, outlined enhanced safety measures already in place and in development. These include tighter content moderation, improved reporting mechanisms, and expanded age-appropriate controls designed to limit exposure to harmful content.
An information campaign is also scheduled on April 12 to guide parents and guardians on how to maximize available safety features and better manage their children’s online experience.
Officials emphasized that parental involvement remains a critical layer of protection.
“Digital safety ay responsibilidad ng platform, gobyerno, at bawat pamilya. Sama-sama nating bantayan at protektahan ang kabataang Pilipino sa online space,” the DICT said.
Among the recommended steps are monitoring screen time, setting spending limits, restricting inappropriate experiences, and curating age-appropriate content.
As digital adoption continues to accelerate, authorities said the priority is not to restrict access outright, but to ensure that protections evolve just as quickly—keeping young users safe without disconnecting them from the benefits of online platforms.
