Ten years ago, Google introduced its now-familiar four-color “G,” a symbol that reflected how people were starting to experience Google everywhere — from phones and apps to the web itself.
Over the years, it grew into more than a logo; it became a mark of trust, discovery, and everyday usefulness.
Now, Google is giving that emblem a fresh glow. The company has unveiled a brighter, gradient-style “G” that it is rolling out more widely, positioning it as a unified icon for the brand in the AI era.
The refreshed design keeps Google’s iconic blue, red, yellow, and green but with richer hues and a smooth gradient. The look mirrors the energy and innovation that artificial intelligence is bringing to how people search, learn, and create with Google tools.
“Earlier this year, we introduced a brighter, four-color gradient ‘G’ to represent Google Search. Now, we’re making it the company-wide ‘G’ icon. The new ‘Google G’ reflects our evolution in the AI era,” Google said.
The updated logo first appeared in May on the Google app for Android and iOS.
While the gradient “G” is already visible on mobile, other platforms are still transitioning.
Over the coming months, it will roll out across more Google products and services, marking the first major update to the “G” icon in nearly a decade.
“While staying true to Google’s iconic four colors, the brighter hues and gradient design symbolize the surge of AI-driven innovation and creative energy across our products and technology,” the company added.
The gradient look also aligns with the vibrant aesthetic of Gemini, Google’s AI assistant, where the design was first integrated in June. Google said it will continue expanding the update across its ecosystem.
