YouTube, the world’s leading video-sharing platform, has announced an update to its YouTube Partner Program (YPP), specifically its policy on what it previously called “repetitious content.” This policy now has a new name: “inauthentic content.”
In its official statement via the YouTube Help Center, the company explained that starting July 15, this change is meant to provide better clarity around content that is considered repetitive or mass-produced.
“We are also renaming this policy from ‘repetitious content’ to ‘inauthentic content.’ This type of content has always been ineligible for monetization under our existing policies, where creators are rewarded for original and authentic content,” YouTube said.

Examples of inauthentic content include channels that post nearly identical narrated stories with only minor changes, or those that upload repetitive slideshow videos with the same voiceover each time.
YouTube clarified, however, that there are no changes to its “reused content” policy. This covers content such as commentary videos, compilations, reaction videos, and clips, which can still be monetized—as long as they provide significant original commentary, context, or added value for viewers.
AI use still welcome—with transparency
YouTube also addressed concerns about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in content creation.
The platform reiterated that it supports creators who use AI tools to improve their storytelling and confirmed that AI-generated content can still be monetized.
However, creators must comply with monetization rules and are required to disclose when realistic-looking content has been altered or synthetically created.
What this means for Filipino content creators
In 2024, a study revealed that Filipinos spent an average of over four hours a day watching YouTube on their TVs.
For local creators, this update underscores the importance of making sure their content aligns with YouTube’s standards if they want to continue earning from it.
To remain eligible for monetization, content creators should review their videos to ensure they are original, authentic, and not mass-produced or overly repetitive.
Simply borrowing content will not cut it—YouTube expects significant transformation or added value to make it unique.
Reviewers will evaluate an entire channel when determining eligibility, taking into account a creator’s main theme, most viewed and newest videos, the channel’s overall watch time, metadata (including titles, thumbnails, and descriptions), and the “About” section.
The message is clear: originality, authenticity, and value to the audience are key. Creators aiming to thrive on YouTube must create with purpose—not just for clicks.
