Digital 2027 Global Overview Report by Meltwater and We Are Social.
The Philippines recorded the highest weekly time spent consuming online media worldwide, with Filipino internet users spending a cumulative 58 hours and nine minutes per week, according to the latest Digital 2027 Global Overview Report by Meltwater and We Are Social.
The report, released in October 2026, placed the Philippines ahead of Brazil, which recorded 53 hours and 50 minutes, and Nigeria, with 53 hours and 42 minutes of weekly online media consumption.
The findings cover internet users aged 16 and above and measure the combined time spent consuming different forms of online media, including social media, online videos, streaming services, music, podcasts, and digital news.
However, the figures represent cumulative media consumption rather than actual time spent online, as users may consume multiple forms of media simultaneously. The report also cautioned that changes to its survey methodology mean the latest figures are not directly comparable with earlier reports.
The country's extensive online media consumption comes as the Philippines recorded approximately 95.89 million internet users, ranking 12th worldwide in terms of connected population.
The figure represents 81.3 percent of the country's estimated 117.96 million population, leaving approximately 22 million Filipinos without internet access.
Mobile devices also play a significant role in Filipinos' internet activities, with 98.5 percent of internet users aged 16 and above accessing the internet through mobile phones.
Globally, the number of internet users reached 6.15 billion, equivalent to 73.9 percent of the world's population, underscoring the continued expansion of digital connectivity.
China remained the country with the largest connected population, followed by India and the United States, while the Philippines was among the world's 15 largest internet markets.
The Digital 2027 Global Overview Report compiles global and country-level data on internet connectivity, social media adoption, digital behavior, artificial intelligence, and online consumer activities.
