BREAKING: CICC in talks with Discord, Paraiso says meeting ‘looks promising’

The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) is currently meeting with Discord, following backlash over the blocking of the platform in the Philippines.

CICC Executive Director Undersecretary Renato “Aboy” Paraiso reached out to TechWatchPH Thursday and said: “Currently meeting with Discord, looks promising.”

Paraiso did not provide further details on the discussions, including what commitments are being considered or whether the talks could lead to the lifting of the block.

The meeting comes after the CICC asked the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to block Discord, saying the platform’s earlier response did not contain the commitments sought by Philippine authorities, including local representation and mechanisms for direct coordination and information sharing.

The blocking drew criticism from Filipino users, including freelancers, remote workers, gamers and online community managers who use Discord for work, communication and community activities.
