FPJ Panday Bayanihan Party-list Rep. Brian Poe explained why some members of the House of Representatives want to invite Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to the Philippines, citing concerns over illegal online gambling, child sexual abuse content and misinformation on Metaβs platforms.
In an exclusive interview with TechWatch PH on the sidelines of an AI Leadership event, Poe said his colleagues want Zuckerberg invited because of issues they have observed across Metaβs platforms.
βMy colleagues want to invite him because of the numerous social ills on Meta’s platforms,β Poe said.
He cited the use of Facebook in activities related to illegal online gambling.
βAnd doing the conversions through Facebook. We also know na may mga child sexual abuse content that isn’t immediately taken down,β Poe said.
The lawmaker also raised the spread of false information on social media and questioned how Meta has responded to these concerns.
βWe also know that ang daming fake news ngayon na kumakalat sa social media. And all of this is not being properly addressed by Meta. And that is that is the argument of many of the legislators and our constituents,β he said.
Poe said the concerns extend beyond lawmakers, pointing to the publicβs exposure to misinformation, offensive content, scams and illegal online gambling.
