Globe gives free roaming aid to customers in quake-hit Indonesia
- Globe, Indonesia, OFW
Globe is providing free calls, texts, and mobile data to customers in Indonesia following the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck eastern Indonesia, helping Filipinos in affected areas maintain communication with their families and loved ones.
Under its Alagang Globe program, the telco said eligible customers currently in Indonesia will receive 15 minutes of incoming and outgoing calls, 15 texts to all networks, and 1 GB of mobile data, valid for seven days at no additional cost.
“During emergencies, staying connected becomes even more important, especially for Filipinos who are away from home. We want to help our customers in Indonesia reach their loved ones and maintain vital lines of communication during this difficult time,” said Paula Rivera-Castillo, Globe senior director for international business.
Globe said customers do not need to register for the assistance. The roaming package will automatically be activated for eligible subscribers detected in Indonesia.
Customers must connect to either Telkomsel or Indosat, Globe’s roaming partners in the country, and will receive a confirmation message once the free package has been activated.
For calls, customers may dial “+” followed by the country code, area code, and telephone number, or the country code and mobile number. Text messages may also be sent by entering “+” followed by the country code and mobile number.
Customers using the free 1 GB data allocation may enable mobile data and data roaming on their devices after receiving the activation confirmation. Globe advised postpaid subscribers to turn on mobile data and data roaming only after the package has been activated.
As of Aug. 17, authorities and rescuers were still conducting operations in East Nusa Tenggara.
