The Philippine Chief Information Officers Association (PCIOA) has driven stronger alignment among business and technology leaders on artificial intelligence, financial innovation, and data sovereignty, as organizations move to adopt more coordinated and responsible approaches to digital transformation.

The push emerged from discussions during PCIOA’s General Membership Meeting, where industry executives underscored the need to connect technology adoption with trust, governance, and long-term sustainability rather than treating innovation as an isolated goal.

PCIOA Chairperson and Chief Executive Mel Migriño said the discussions highlighted the need for organizations to move beyond simply adopting emerging technologies and instead focus on building resilient and values-driven leadership.

“As technology and business executives, we often talk about digital transformation, Gen AI, and blockchain as if these are the destinations we are heading toward. But as leaders in this room know, transformation and these emerging technologies are not the only imperatives when we reach the finish line—they are part of our so-called permanent environment,” Migriño said.

“We are leading in an era where the only thing moving faster than the pace of technology is the rate of uncertainty,” she added.

According to PCIOA, the gathering resulted in stronger alignment among industry leaders on the importance of balancing innovation with accountability, particularly as businesses accelerate AI adoption and digital finance initiatives.

“Navigating uncertainty requires two things that may seem like opposites but are, in fact, partners: agility and integrity,” Migriño said.

“Agility allows us to pivot strategies, embrace AI, and re-engineer our businesses in real time. Integrity—one of PCIOA’s core values—serves as our anchor, ensuring that while our tactics evolve, our principles remain non-negotiable,” she added.

The PCIOA is a non-profit organization supporting the Digital ASEAN initiative and serves as a community of technology leaders and practitioners advancing digital transformation, cybersecurity, data privacy, and AI governance in the Philippines.

PCIOA is the Philippines’ exclusive country affiliate of the ASEAN CXO Association, headquartered in Singapore.

With the theme “Where the Future of Finance Meets Data Sovereignty,” the event also featured discussions from Revolut Philippines CEO Designate Albert Tinio, who shared insights on the future of finance and the increasing role of trust and data governance in digital banking ecosystems.

“The future of finance is no longer about brick and mortar, but about building borderless, invisible infrastructure that turns global volatility into local resilience. We must pivot from managing legacy systems to architecting the digital rails that ensure the Philippines remains unshakeable in an unpredictable world,” Tinio said.

Industry leaders at the event emphasized that financial innovation can no longer be separated from discussions on data sovereignty, cybersecurity, and consumer confidence as digital transactions continue to expand.

Meanwhile, Mansmith CEO Chiqui Escareal-Go highlighted the need to humanize technology adoption, stressing that digital transformation efforts must remain centered on people and organizational culture rather than technology alone.

“The right thing to ask isn’t just what does this system do — it’s what does it feel like to be inside it. Are we solving the problem — or are we truly serving the person?” Escareal-Go said.

PCIOA pointed out that the event further strengthened collaboration between business and technology leaders from various sectors, while encouraging organizations to adopt more responsible and resilient approaches to innovation amid evolving digital risks.

“In uncertain times, we can no longer rely on a fixed roadmap—we must follow a compass. And you, the technology and business leaders of this country, are that compass,” Migriño said.

The organization noted that the gathering forms part of its continuing efforts to help enterprises navigate emerging technologies while promoting responsible leadership, trust, and long-term digital sustainability in the Philippines’ evolving digital economy.
