eGovPH back online after brief downtime, DICT assures services stable

The eGovPH Super App is now fully operational following a temporary downtime caused by a surge in user activity, with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) assuring the public that there is no cause for concern.
DICT Undersecretary for e-Government David Almirol Jr. said the disruption was not due to any security incident but was triggered by an overwhelming number of simultaneous transactions on the platform.
“Our servers were overwhelmed due to the surge in eGov usage, especially following the launch of new features,” Almirol said, noting that the app now has around 40 million users, contributing to the spike in demand.
The eGov temporarily placed the system under maintenance to upgrade its servers and restore stability. The outage lasted several hours across two days, with immediate steps taken to address performance limitations.
Almirol emphasized that the issue has already been resolved, with enhanced server capacity now in place to support growing demand. “We have resolved the issue. We just need to expand our servers to ensure this will not happen again,” he said.
He also clarified that there was no hacking or data breach involved, assuring users that the platform remains secure.
Moving forward, the DICT said it is coordinating with key government stakeholders, including Malacañang, to further strengthen infrastructure and anticipate higher usage as more services are integrated into the platform.
Prior to the restoration, users reported being unable to access the eGovPH app, with login attempts, account creation, and basic functions repeatedly failing during the outage.
Posts circulating online showed users encountering error messages such as “We’ll be back in just a moment,” along with repeated prompts to retry after a few seconds, effectively locking them out of the platform.
On April 13, the DICT said the app was undergoing maintenance and feature updates, advising users to try accessing the platform at a later time.
Reddit users expressed frustration, with some saying persistent technical issues are undermining digitalization efforts. “eGov na sana pinakamagandang nagawa, under maintenance naman,” one user said, while another wrote, “Totoo, sa buong term ni BBM ito na nga lang yung magandang nagawa, under maintenance pa.”
Other users echoed similar concerns, including difficulties accessing services and completing transactions. Some speculated that increased traffic may have contributed to the disruption, with one comment noting, “Sa dami siguro ng nag-a-access… kinakaya ng server.”
The eGovPH app serves as a centralized digital gateway for public services, integrating transactions from multiple agencies into a single platform. It includes features such as digital travel declarations, access to multiple digital IDs; national and local government services; document signing; and AI-assisted support.
The platform has reached 40 million downloads as of 2026 and has integrated with thousands of government systems and services, making it a key access point for digital national ID and government transactions.
