Huawei Mate 80 Pro opens PH pre-orders, brings durability, AI imaging, and high-speed charging upgrades
Huawei has opened pre-orders in the Philippines for its latest flagship, the HUAWEI Mate 80 Pro, positioning the device around durability, AI-assisted photography, and high-performance hardware upgrades.
The device is available for pre-order from April 17 to 23, with a suggested retail price of PHP 69,999 and a limited promotional price of PHP 64,999.
Refined design, familiar identity
The Mate 80 Pro carries a redesigned rear module featuring what Huawei calls a “Dual Ring” layout, evolving the series’ signature circular camera design into a more symmetrical form.
The device uses a vegan fiber back material, aimed at balancing grip and durability while maintaining a premium finish. It comes in Gold and Black variants.
Camera system leans on sensor size and AI framing
On imaging, Huawei equips the phone with a quad-camera system led by a 50MP Ultra Lighting main sensor with a 1/1.28-inch sensor size, targeting improved low-light performance and dynamic range.
Supporting cameras include a 48MP telephoto macro lens with up to 4x optical zoom and close focusing distance, and a 40MP ultra-wide camera for broader framing.
A key addition is its AI Composition feature, which analyzes scenes in real time and provides framing suggestions directly in the viewfinder, aiming to simplify shot composition without manual adjustments.
Durability positioned as a key differentiator
Durability remains a central focus. The Mate 80 Pro uses second-generation Kunlun Glass, which Huawei claims offers up to 20 times better drop resistance compared to conventional glass.
The rear panel is also reinforced, with the vegan fiber material designed to improve impact resistance.
The device carries IP68 and IP69 ratings, indicating resistance to dust, water immersion, and high-pressure water exposure. Huawei said the phone is engineered to withstand submersion of up to six meters and extreme temperature conditions.
Performance and cooling upgrades
Under the hood, the Mate 80 Pro is equipped with 16GB of RAM and delivers a claimed 21 percent performance improvement over the previous generation.
Thermal management is handled by a dual-phase cooling system designed to maintain stability during sustained workloads such as gaming or multitasking.
Battery and charging push faster turnaround
Battery capacity is set at 5,750mAh, with support for 100W wired and 80W wireless charging. Huawei said the device can reach over 50 percent charge in around 15 minutes under optimal conditions.
Security and ecosystem integration
For security, the phone integrates a 3D time-of-flight (ToF) facial recognition system aimed at improving unlocking accuracy.
Huawei also highlights AI-based shortcut controls that allow users to launch digital assistants directly from the lock screen.
The company continues to push its AppGallery ecosystem, highlighting compatibility with commonly used apps and productivity tools relevant to Philippine users.
Positioning in a competitive flagship market
The Mate 80 Pro enters a competitive flagship segment where durability, camera intelligence, and charging speed are becoming key differentiators.
With pre-orders now live, its reception will likely depend on how these features translate into real-world performance, particularly in imaging consistency and long-term reliability.
