Amazon’s low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite internet service may become available in the Philippines within the year, according to the Department of Information and Communications Technology.
DICT Secretary Henry Aguda said Amazon’s LEO service is now undergoing regulatory application following the signing of the Konektadong Pinoy law, which streamlines the entry of telecommunications providers in the country.
Amazon’s satellite internet initiative, Project Kuiper, is expected to compete with Starlink, which is already operating in the Philippines.
Both services use LEO satellites to deliver internet connectivity, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
