Apple taps Google’s Gemini models to power next wave of Apple Intelligence

By TechWatch PH Staff

Apple has entered into a multi-year collaboration with Google that will see the next generation of Apple Foundation Models built on Google’s Gemini AI models and cloud technology, the two companies confirmed in a joint statement.

Under the partnership, Google’s Gemini models will serve as the underlying AI foundation for future Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized version of Siri, which Apple expects to roll out later this year.

In a joint statement, technology giants said the decision followed an extensive evaluation process, concluding that Google’s AI technology currently offers the most capable foundation to support the scale and performance required for its on-device and cloud-assisted AI systems.

Despite the collaboration, the partnership emphasized that Apple Intelligence will continue to operate primarily on Apple devices and through its Private Cloud Compute infrastructure.

The companies involve reiterated that Apple’s privacy standards remain unchanged, with user data protected under Apple’s existing privacy framework even as third-party AI models are integrated at the foundation level.

The move signals a notable shift in Apple’s AI strategy, aligning the company with Gemini as competition intensifies among major tech firms to deliver more advanced and personalized AI features across consumer devices.
