BREAKING: CICC asks NTC to restore Discord access in PH

The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) has asked the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to restore access to Discord in the Philippines following a meeting with the platform.

CICC Executive Director Undersecretary Renato “Aboy” Paraiso said Discord has committed to establishing a presence in the Philippines as part of its cooperation with the government.

According to Paraiso, Discord already has a designated point person, while a “green lane” or direct coordination channel with Philippine authorities has also been established.

Discord also committed to creating a faster process to accommodate investigation requests from the CICC and other government authorities.

The development comes after access to Discord was blocked on several networks in the Philippines following the CICC’s request to the NTC.

The latest agreement signals a shift following talks between the CICC and Discord, with the government now moving to have access to the platform restored.
