Huawei opens global digital art competition to Filipino creators

Filipino digital artists can compete for a share of a US$20,000 prize pool as Huawei opens worldwide submissions for its GoPaint digital art competition.

The HUAWEI GoPaint Worldwide Creating Activity 2026, unveiled during the company’s “Chase the Wild” product launch in Germany, is accepting original digital artworks until Jan. 31, 2027.

The competition is open to digital artists, professional creators, and enthusiasts from different countries, including the Philippines. Huawei said its GoPaint activities have received more than 10,000 submissions globally over the past two years.

For the 2026 edition, participants can enter works across five categories: Digital Watercolor and Ink, Sci-Fi Art, Cutting Edge Paintings, Narrative Art, and the newly introduced Easy Creation category.

The Easy Creation category is intended to provide a simpler entry point for people who are beginning to explore digital art. Participants can take a photo using a Huawei smartphone or tablet and paint directly over the image using the GoPaint app.

All competition entries must be created using a Huawei tablet and the GoPaint app.

Participants using a Huawei MatePad can submit an artwork by selecting the image from their Gallery, tapping “Share,” and choosing the My HUAWEI app, which directs them to the competition page.

Entries can also be submitted through the activity page or banner on the HUAWEI Community platform. Participants must log in using a HUAWEI ID before uploading their work.

Huawei will select 20 works for Honorable Mention awards, with each winning artist receiving a pre-tax cash prize of US$1,000. The awards bring the competition’s total cash prize pool to US$20,000.

Selected works will also be featured in Huawei’s global showcases, which may include company events, art exhibitions and social media channels. Some artworks may also be considered for Huawei Themes wallpapers or customized merchandise.

The competition will use an eight-member preliminary judging panel before selected entries move to the final round.

The final jury includes French urban artist and Urban Art United co-founder Dezio; American art director, animation director and Maple Toons writer Dalton Grant Jr.; and illustrator Victo Ngai, the first ethnic Chinese recipient of the Society of Illustrators’ Hamilton King Award.

Following the Jan. 31 submission deadline, artworks will undergo review and judging from February to May 2027.

The competition gives Filipino digital artists another platform to put their work before an international audience while exploring different forms of digital illustration and visual storytelling.
