Another player rises in PH fintech as Revolut opens waitlist to local users

  • A Revolut app screen shows users in the Philippines being placed on a waitlist after registering, with the app indicating that account activation will be available soon.

Revolut is now available on the Google Play Store in the Philippines, giving local users an early look at the global fintech platform as it prepares for its local rollout.

Users who log in to the app are currently being placed on a waitlist instead of gaining full access to an active account. The app shows a Philippine flag and the message, “You’re on the waitlist,” followed by the notice: “We’re close to launching in Philippines! We’ll let you know as soon as you can activate your account.”

The app also shows options to invite friends and copy a referral link, indicating that Revolut is already allowing users in the Philippines to register interest ahead of full account activation.

The development is drawing attention as Revolut is being positioned as a new player that could shake up the country’s digital banking and fintech space.

Materials about the app also identify Albert Tinio, former CEO of GCash and GoTyme, as Revolut Philippines CEO, adding more interest to the company’s expected local push.

Revolut is being promoted for features such as multi-currency accounts for global spending, competitive foreign exchange rates for international transactions, built-in budgeting and smart money management tools, seamless global payments and transfers, and an all-in-one financial app experience.

Its featured tools also include a multi-currency wallet, in-app currency exchange, advanced card controls, spending limits, virtual cards, real-time alerts, spending insights, and travel-friendly cross-border functions.

For Filipino users, Revolut’s possible full launch could be significant, especially for those who travel, work with international clients, receive funds from abroad, or regularly manage payments in different currencies.

Its focus on foreign exchange, card controls, and global payments could make it different from local finance apps that mainly grew around cashless payments, bills payment, and local transfers.

However, the app is not yet fully active for Philippine users. For now, those who log in are directed to the waitlist and will be notified once account activation becomes available.

Revolut’s Play Store availability marks an early step in its Philippine entry. The bigger test will come once the company opens full access and shows how its global fintech features will compete in the country’s fast-growing digital banking and e-wallet market.
