Digital bank and fintech platform Maya has joined MediaQuest’s “THINKaMuna Pilipinas” advocacy, expanding the initiative’s focus on financial scam awareness as online fraud continues to evolve.
The collaboration combines media literacy and financial education to help Filipinos become more informed, discerning, and resilient digital citizens through educational content and community-based programs on scam awareness, fraud prevention, and responsible digital engagement.
The partnership comes as more Filipinos adopt digital financial services, increasing the need for stronger digital literacy and online safety practices.
Launched by MediaQuest in 2024, THINKaMuna Pilipinas promotes media and information literacy by encouraging users to pause, verify, and think critically before acting online. With Maya joining the initiative, the advocacy is broadening its scope to include financial scam awareness and safer digital financial habits.
“Media literacy is no longer just about distinguishing real news from fake news; it is our critical shield for everyday survival,” said MediaQuest President and CEO Ricky Vargas.
“Partnering with Maya allows us to extend the THINKaMuna philosophy directly to millions of Filipinos who need to be protected from financial scams. Before you click, share, or transact online, we want every Filipino to pause, verify, and protect themselves from these predators,” he added.
Maya CEO-Founder and Maya Bank Co-Founder Orlando Vea emphasized the growing connection between financial services and digital literacy.
“Digital finance creates greater opportunities for more Filipinos, but trust and safety must grow alongside adoption. Financial education today goes hand in hand with media and information literacy,” Vea said.

According to Maya, the partnership builds on its ongoing efforts to promote safe participation in the digital economy through fraud prevention technologies, customer protection features, public awareness campaigns, and industry collaborations.
By integrating media literacy with financial literacy, MediaQuest and Maya aim to equip more Filipinos with the critical thinking skills needed to recognize online threats, make informed decisions, and navigate digital platforms more safely.
