The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on Tuesday, May 12, refuted reports claiming Secretary Henry Aguda had stepped down from his post, describing the circulating information as “false reports and speculations.”

In an official statement, Aguda said he continues to serve at the pleasure of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and remains focused on the administration’s digital transformation agenda.

“I deny the false reports and speculations that I have resigned from my position as Secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT),” Aguda said.

Earlier, a report said Aguda allegedly tendered his resignation on Monday.

The DICT chief also warned against the spread of disinformation and fake news, saying such narratives could be used to create confusion and undermine public trust.

“The DICT has been steadfast in its efforts to combat disinformation and the spread of fake news, and this latest rumor is yet another example of how false narratives can be weaponized to sow confusion and undermine public trust,” he said.

Aguda added that while the reports were “unfortunate,” they were “unsurprising” given the department’s recent gains and ongoing efforts in advancing digital transformation initiatives in the country.

He also reaffirmed the department’s priorities, including expanding connectivity, accelerating digitalization efforts, and ensuring that government digital services deliver meaningful and inclusive benefits to Filipinos.

“The DICT remains focused on the important work ahead in accelerating digital transformation, expanding connectivity, and ensuring that digitalization initiatives translate into meaningful and inclusive benefits for all,” Aguda said.
