Huawei launches Watch GT Runner 2 in PH, brings elite marathon insights to consumer wearables
- Huawei
Huawei has introduced the Watch GT Runner 2 in the Philippines, positioning the device as a performance-focused smartwatch designed to translate elite-level marathon training into everyday use.
The wearable was co-developed with Eliud Kipchoge, widely regarded as one of the greatest marathon runners in history and the first to complete a marathon distance in under two hours under controlled conditions. The collaboration centers on bringing structured training insights to a broader range of users, from recreational runners to competitive athletes.
Huawei said the device emphasizes real-time data accuracy, capturing workout metrics at one-second intervals to enable more responsive pacing and performance adjustments. It also introduces running power metrics, designed to measure mechanical output beyond traditional heart rate monitoring, offering deeper insights into effort, efficiency, and running form.
To support tracking reliability, the Watch GT Runner 2 uses a dual-band satellite system combined with a 3D floating antenna design to maintain signal stability, particularly in dense urban environments. When GPS signals weaken, an AI-assisted positioning system uses motion data to maintain continuity in tracking distance and pace.
The smartwatch also integrates what Huawei calls an Intelligent Marathon Mode, combining environmental data, pacing strategies, and physiological inputs to guide runners during races or long-distance training sessions.
Beyond performance tracking, the device includes recovery-focused features that analyze heart rate variability, sleep patterns, and training load to recommend rest periods and intensity adjustments. The aim, according to Huawei, is to help users avoid overtraining while maintaining consistent progress.
Kipchoge, who has long advocated for making running accessible, said the collaboration reflects a shared goal of encouraging movement across all levels of fitness.
“Not everyone can access the best coaches in the world, but we are lucky to have Huawei… to coach you. Free of charge,” he said.
The Watch GT Runner 2 is priced at PHP 19,999 in the Philippines. Early buyers can access promotional bundles and vouchers across Huawei’s retail and online channels until May 31.
The launch reflects a broader push among device makers to embed advanced analytics and AI-driven coaching into wearables, as demand grows for data-driven fitness tools that go beyond basic activity tracking.
