PLDT and Smart President and CEO Manny V. Pangilinan has directed PLDT and Smart to extend free calling services to Filipinos affected by the escalating conflict in parts of the Middle East, aiming to help overseas Filipino workers stay connected with their families during the crisis.
In a series of posts on X, Pangilinan said he had asked PLDT and Smart Communications to “offer free calls for Filipinos in countries affected by the conflict in the Middle East,” adding that the marching order is to make it as easy as possible for countrymen to reach their loved ones, and vice versa.

He later clarified that PLDT, Smart, and TNT subscribers in the Philippines will also be able to call their loved ones in the same affected countries for free. The offer will run until March 7, with the group set to monitor whether an extension will be necessary depending on developments on the ground.
Aside from free international calls, Pangilinan said Filipinos abroad may contact the Smart crisis hotline at +63 2 8845 7799, which operates 24/7, to be connected with their families in the Philippines. He also pointed to the Department of Migrant Workers – Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (DMW-OWWA) 1348 hotline, accessible through the TinBo app, as another channel for assistance.
The initiative comes as tensions in parts of the Middle East continue to raise concerns over the safety and communication access of thousands of Filipinos working in the region.
Telecommunications support is often among the first measures rolled out during emergencies, enabling families to coordinate, verify safety, and access official advisories.
Further details on coverage, eligible countries, and implementation mechanics are expected to be released through the official social media accounts of PLDT and Smart.
